Eliot has over twelve years of experience as an essay consultant, helping applicants brainstorm, draft, and perfect winning personal statements. A native New Yorker, she graduated from Vassar College and then worked as an editor at Zagat Survey and at Harper’s Magazine before heading off to the deserts of the American Southwest, where she earned her MFA in creative writing at the University of Arizona. While in graduate school, she worked as a journalist and private writing coach. She then went on to teach English and creative writing at several independent secondary schools, including Milton Academy and Marlborough School, where she developed her passion for coaching students through the application writing process and founded an “Application Essay Boot Camp” program.
For the past ten years, Eliot has worked as a writing consultant with both private clients and at several online college consulting companies, including Accepted.com and College Coach. Her clients have been accepted at Johns Hopkins, Vassar, Wesleyan, Tufts, Kenyon, Georgetown, Columbia, and Duke, among others. Along the way, she completed a master’s degree in English Literature at Middlebury College, has published nonfiction and poetry, and taught creative writing and literature for eight years at St. Michael’s College in Vermont. She now lives in Burlington, Vermont, with her husband and son, where she enjoys kayaking on the lake and hiking in the Green Mountains.
